What an inspiring award ceremony! On October 21, the winners of the 2024 German Mobility Award were celebrated. Dr. Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital and Transport, gave a brief address on the future of mobility and then presented trophies in four categories to trailblazing projects shaping the mobility of tomorrow. Additionally, the Audience Award was determined through an online vote with enthusiastic participation and presented by Daniela Kluckert, Parliamentary State Secretary for the Federal Minister for Digital and Transport, who chaired the jury.
This year, the awards ceremony took place for the first time as part of the Federal Government’s Digital Summit. Fittingly, this year’s German Mobility Award focused on projects with digital solutions.
The call for applications attracted numerous companies, startups, networks, initiatives from the mobility and digital sectors, as well as municipalities and public agencies throughout Germany. An expert jury from business, academia, civil society, and politics selected 12 of the most innovative projects from four categories for the shortlist. During the subsequent jury session, there was a thorough discussion to choose the most compelling projects in each category. The winners were then announced at the awards ceremony.
Here are the winners of the 2024 German Mobility Award:
The SmartAIs project was honored in the Digital Transformation and AI category for its obstacle detection app. This app helps blind and visually impaired people navigate urban spaces more safely, enhancing barrier-free mobility.
In the New Mobility Solutions category, the award went to NeMo.bil, a revolutionary mobility system that uses connected vehicles for public transport on-demand. NeMo.bil makes public transportation more flexible and efficient by smartly integrating various mobility options.
UNLEASH FUTURE BOATS received the award in the Design category for its autonomous, emissions-free boats. This innovation enables environmentally friendly transport of people and goods over water, making a strong statement for sustainable mobility.
The SMILE24 project was recognized in the Good Practice category for creating the most extensive public transport service in rural Germany. With a flexible, accessible transport service, SMILE24 brings mobility to remote regions and makes a significant contribution to the rural mobility transition.
The awarding of the Audience Award was also highly anticipated. From all projects on the shortlist, the public selected its favorite for the Audience Award, with MoveOn taking the top spot. This project uses and analyzes cycling data from over 475,000 participants in the “Stadtradeln” campaign and makes it available to municipalities for traffic planning.
For the founders, developers, and their teams, it was a special day. They were visibly delighted to receive recognition for their innovative projects.
