The winners of the German Mobility Award 2022 have been announced. Together with the public an interdisciplinary jury have chosen the most innovative mobility projects and personalities in nine categories. On 27 October 2022, the trophies were presented at the Wartehalle in Berlin.
This year’s German Mobility Award started on June 15, 2022 with a call to all mobility enthusiasts in Germany to submit their innovative projects or nominate initiatives or personalities. The DMP received around 300 submissions, and the jury and citizens in Germany selected 18 of them for the shortlist. In a final meeting on the eve of the awards ceremony, the jury deliberated: Which of the ideas is most convincing, which projects will advance the mobility of the future? Parliamentary State Secretary Daniela Kluckert moderated the jury session on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV). The jury’s decision remained secret until the award ceremony startet.
The atmosphere in the audience was therefore all the more tense when the two jury members Dr. Olga Nevska, Managing Director of Telekom MobilitySolutions, and Nuri Köse, representing the citizens in the jury, presented the German Mobility Award. In nine different categories such as DMP| Good Practice or DMP| Art, the award winners were able to accept the trophy on stage.
The joy of receiving the award was clearly visible on the faces of many of the participants. This was also the case for Katja Diehl, who gave a moving speech in which she expressed her gratitude for receiving two awards at once: Due to her commitment to sustainable mobility, she won in the category DMP | People – and also received the most votes in the online voting, so that she was also able to take home the Audience Award.
René Apitzsch was honored for the project OPENER next: Next stop – Accessibility! He says: “If you apply here and win the prize in the end, it is a confirmation that the topic you are working on is important. And maybe it will lead to new points of connection.” Second Ride: Electrify Your Moped was also able to convince the jury. Award winner Carlo Schmid emphasized the increase in project awareness: “We’ve already generated media interest, which of course helps us a lot.”
The jury found the choice in the category DMP | Change particularly difficult. They considered both eFarm’s hydrogen concept and the e.Volution shuttle system to be trend-setting. Therefore, the jury decided to award both of them.
The day reached its official climax with the award ceremony. But already the morning of the day was eventful: At the DMP | Community Meeting all the participants of the longlist and the shortlist could get to know each other. In this way, interesting conversations arose effortlessly. The meeting was the kick-off for the DMP | Community, which would like to stay in contact.
Networking and talking about ideas for sustainable mobility – that’s what the community around the German Mobility Prize is all about. Science Fiction Award winner Bashar Zapen also sees it that way: “We are given the opportunity here to get to know new people who are trying to solve similar challenges.”
